On rare years when the conditions are right in the arid landscape of the Badlands, in the American West, wildflowers burst into a display of colour for just a few days.
The vegetation in the region has adapted to the climate, with just a small amount of moisture the desert can become coloured with sweeping fields of Scorpion Weed, Beeplant and the flowers of the Pincushion Cacti. These blooms can be very short-lived to conserve moisture.

99-Year-Old Lady Sews A Dress A Day For Children In Need

Lillian Weber, a 99-year-old good Samaritan from Iowa, has spent the last few years sewing a dress a day for the Little Dresses For Africa charity, a Christian organization that distributes dresses to children in need in Africa and elsewhere.

Weber’s goal is to make 1,000 dresses by the time she turns 100 on May 6th. So far, she’s made more than 840. Though she says she could make two a day, she only makes one – but each single dress she makes per day is personalized with careful stitchwork. She hopes that each little girl who receives her dress can take pride in her new garment.

Clostridium novyi NT SporesUsing Anaerobic Bacteria to Kill Cancer
There are a ton of awesome research being done everywhere. The paper by Roberts show an awesome example of some innovative ideas out there! This group basically introduced the bacteria to target tumor cells. Since tumor cells are hypoxic due to the rapid proliferation of cells; and these bacteria thrive in hypoxic environments.
The group tested their hypothesis in vitro, and in vivo models of rats, rabbits, dogs and even one human patient.
There are still a lot of worries about the potential views of this treatment by both the public and other health care professionals due to the origins of the bacteria… but how awesome is this!
Anyways, if you are further interested, look up the paper below! I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately for some of the projects I’ve been working on here in baltimore and D.C., so I will be posting quick summaries of papers like this! Let me know if you guys completely hate this and want me to post something else… :)

If you’re interested in how to draw believable robots and machinery I taught a class that’s available through svslearn.com.

Link: http://schoolofvisualstorytelling.bigcartel.com/product/drawing-robots-and-machinery

This isn’t a tutorial outlining a mech recipe, this class is a map showing the terrain allowing you to navigate your own design. I go deep into the thought process of design, demonstrate it, and even do draw overs of a few class member’s work.

When you order the class you’ll get a streaming or download option that you can watch any time. It also comes with a pdf of my lecture notes, and a workbook with a bunch of drawing exercises.
